Dogs and Classical Music

Dogs. Such cute, wonderful, loyal creatures. Really magical creatures that can burrow themselves into your heart and never let go. But sometimes that wonderful unconditional love can be tested. Severely tested. Especially if its an attention-ho and whines and yips and barks at you for loving-doggy-attention(belly-belly rub) at some ungodly hour, keeping you up and making you look prematurely 80 years old when u get up in the morning.

Hence, I have devised several tactics to combat this K-9 problem and save whatever is left of my beauty sleep.

Mission Impossible 1
MI 1: Screaming incessantly for 10 minutes till u start foaming at the mouth whilst reverting back to caveman form and banging your plastic slipper on the cage

Success Rate : 100 % for several days till your dog realizes that you are a toothless tiger

Mission Impossible 2
MI 2 (Part 1): Reverse tactics maneuvers must be taken aka....The Cold War.
MI 2 (Part 2): Ignore your dog till somebody somedog gives in, gotta show them who’s boss here!

Success Rate : 0% …has never worked for me

Mission Impossible 3
MI 3 : Play Classical Music, yes you read it right ( Canon in D highly recommended)

Success Rate : 100 %
It weirdly soothes my dog and calms her down until she falls asleep and becomes a breathing rug on the floor

Mission Accomplished!

Mamma Mia!

All righty! So I've finally decided to get off my lazy ass and start churning out those movie reviews!

Before I start, I just HAVE to say I've been dying to watch this movie ever since I saw its posters all those months ago at a tiny little cinema ( which was weird but I guess they have really good publicity people). And after looking forward to this movie for months and moaning about it for weeks, I finally got to watch it (Yay for me!) .Even with my hopes higher than Mount Everest, I gotta say this movie did *not* disappoint!

Mamma Mia is a comedy and ABBA musical about Sophie( Amanda Seyfried), a 20 year old girl who is about to get married to the love love love of her life, Sky (yes, his name really is Sky) . But, alas, though it seems everything was going swell in Sophie's lalaland, she still longed for the one thing missing in her life---her ol' Pop.

As luck would have it, Sophie found and read her Mom's (Donna, played marvelously by Meryl Streep) dirty lil' black book and invited all three possible daddy candidates to her wedding faster that you could say 'Mamma Mia'! Hijinks ensue and things get very very complicated.

My rating for this movie would be 8 out of 10 :D
And I would recommend this movie to anybody who grew up listening to ABBA songs and for those who haven't grown up yet, take a chance on ABBA!

***Spoiler Alert***

While Mamma Mia would at first seem to point to cute Sophie being the main character, its actually up for grabs between her and Donna, and 6 other characters. Before I go off rambling bout the 3 handsome Maybe-Dad dudes, I'll start on Donna's and her 2 little Dynamos first( they sang together as Donna and the Dynamos in the olden days).
Meryl Streep was crazy good in this movie and her singing voice though not going to be winning
any grammy's was totally perfect for this show! Her singing + acting really showed us what Donna was feeling and that couldn't have been easy...especially with all the happy jumping parts and sad sobby parts. Just like how Sophie has her 2 best buddies journeying so far to get to her wedding in Ka... ( I never caught the name, but i was sure it sounded very exotic and greek-like),
Donna has her 2 Dynamos( Tanya and Rosie) and the three of them together really made me laugh and almost choke on my drink. Tanya and Rosie sounded like little birds chirping in perfect harmony and pitch on a little greek island.

One thing about this movie that really suprised me was how effortlessly they connected the songs to the storyline. Just imagine yourself sewing or something and suddenly bursting into song about sewing. It was THAT seamless. And it kinda made me wanna start singing in the cinema too ><

Out of the 3 Maybe-Daddys I'll start on my fav character I was rooting for to be the Real-Daddy.
And it goes to.........Harry Bright/ H.B/ Head Banger (Colin Firth)! I was totally betting my money on him winning foxy Donna's heart but alas, it was not meant to be. Banker Harry Bright formerly head banger has answered an altogether different siren ( which is also his huge dark deep secret hidden in his huge dark deep closet). Though I did get an inkling of his secret during the boat scene with the other Maybe-Daddy, Bill Anderson( Stellan Skarsgard), before he flashed his very fair butt to us. Bill Anderson, or should I just call him M-D 2 , is a writer, an adventurer and a self professed 'lone wolf'. He wasn't given as much screen time as the others I think, and maybe it was because of that that I liked him the least out of our 3 Maybe-Daddys.

*Drum rolls*

Our third handsome Maybe-Daddy, Sam, played by Pierce Brosnon, was the love of Donna's life.
Though age seems to have caught up to him, Pierce Brosnon does still look as dashing as ever with his twinkling eyes and killer smile that you've seen in James Bond or The Tailor of Panama. ( Go Pierce!) . Pierce's singing was absolutely horrible, awful, terrible no, tone deaf, I've run out of adjectives to describe his hilariously bad singing! I mean, I'm not nightingale but him singing was like scratching chalk on blackboard over and over and it sounded more like he was wheezing out words past his mouth than singing. But hey, he's James Bond! And...nobody messes with the king of sexy chicks and cars!

Colin Firth actually sang quite well and was the best among the three...tee-hee...
Sophie's voice was really wonderful, sweet, and flowed like honey AND was a sound for sore ears to dispel any lasting effect from Pierce's wheezing. Don't get me wrong, I do absolutely adore Pierce Brosnon, but the man really can't sing to save his life!

At the end of the show, everything is wrapped up nicely and Sam gets together with Donna (a love lost for so long), Sophie and Sky goes off gallivanting to see the world, Rosie hooks up with Billy through a really funny sequence (Take A Chance On Me), and Head Banger Harry is finally true to his heart and admits he's gay( and proceeds to have an island fling). Though the whole 'who is the dad' issue wasn't resolved, all three of them decide to have 'a third' of Sophie as their daughter. Aww...

The best part of the show I guess is the performance by Donna and the Dynamos (Dancing Queen) over the credits and the three Maybe-Daddys pop up later on in full shiny 70's costume.
Trust me you wouldn't wanna miss this show!
